Mitsubishi Aircraft
The story of how Mitsubishi started making planes is pretty typical for a Japanese company of the time. This esteemed manufacturer made a foray into this specific industry after WW1, as did many others… but it took the company roughly two decades to find its footing there. Not all of their original designs were a success, so, for quite a while, Mitsubishi engineers had to make do by assembling aircraft and engines under license.

Lend-Lease Aircraft
The Lend-Lease policy was a program under which the US provided Allied powers with military equipment and strategic resources. Officially, President Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease bill into law on March 11, 1941… but in reality things were slightly more complicated, especially with aircraft. Years before the start of the war in Europe, the US had already begun supplying friendly nations with American planes.
