The VRCC is Available On Spain’s Armed Forces Day!
In 1978, with the adoption of a new Constitution, Spain began modernizing its armed forces. That same year an institutional event was approved, celebrated on the closest Saturday to May 30th every year, paying tribute to military personnel.
USS Des Moines Returns on its Anniversary!
On May 28th 1945, the USS Des Moines heavy cruiser was laid down and was the third American ship to be named after the capital of the state of Iowa. During her service life, she traveled all over the world, demonstrating the readiness of the US Navy to meet any challenge.

On May 28th 1935, the German Bf 109 made its first flight! This famous and iconic aircraft was used throughout the Second World War and post-war in several variants. Four years later on June 1st 1939, the Fw 190 fighter designed by Kurt Tank took to the air for the first time. Together, these legendary aircraft formed the backbone of Germany’s Luftwaffe during the Second World War, and were flown by some of the most successful aces in history.
The Milan is Temporarily Available With a Discount for the Anniversary of its First Flight!
On May 29th 1970, the French Milan (“Kite”) jet fighter flew for the first time. This jet was created through an order from the Swiss Air Force and combined the Mirage III base with the Jaguar’s weapons. The core difference of the Milan was the folding canards at the front of the plane, nicknamed the whiskers.

The French Navy has been around since the Middle Ages. It carried crusaders across the Mediterranean and was a participant in the Hundred Years’ War. In 1690, France won one of its most impressive naval victories in the Battle of Beachy Head, having sunk 10 Anglo-Dutch fleet ships without losing a single one of their own.

Weizman’s Spitfire Returns on the Anniversary of the last Empire Air Day!
From 1934 to 1939, the United Kingdom hosted annual air shows and open days at air bases. This event was called “Empire Air Day” and its intention was to show the general public the work of the Royal Air Force. The last air show in this event took place on May 20th 1939, where many aircraft took part, including the Supermarine Spitfire, which amazed the audience with its speed.

The FFA P-16 is Now Available on the Anniversary of its First Flight!
The Swiss FFA P-16 prototype attack aircraft first took to the skies on April 25th, 1955. A year later, the second prototype broke the sound barrier. Due to one of the test aircraft crashing, the Swiss government canceled the order for the P-16 and today only one example exists, located at the museum in Dübendorf

The Soviet Spitfire Mk IXc Temporarily Returns for Golden Eagles!
Vasily Matsievich was born on April 13th, 1913. He fought in the Second World War as a squadron commander and shot down 16 enemy aircraft and won another 6 aerial victories as part of a group. For his exemplary performance, he was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.

Moments of Valor: Philippines
April 9th is traditionally observed in the Philippines as a national memorial day known as Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor). This day commemorates the fall of the Bataan Peninsula to Japanese forces in 1942.
Golovachev’s Yak-9M is Temporarily Available for Golden Eagles!
This month’s Pages of History features ace pilot Pavel Golovachev. Having become famous for his aerial ramming over East Prussia, Golovachev left his trusty La-7 in a museum and in the last months of the war switched to a brand-new Yak-9M. He flew it in the skies over Berlin and shot down two Fw 190s in late April 1945.

The A6M5 Ko and A6M2 (USA) Temporarily Return for the A6M’s First Flight!
On April 1st 1939, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero made its first flight. This plane became the most widely produced Japanese aircraft during World War II. At the beginning of the war, its incredible maneuverability was unrivaled, and coupled with its powerful armament, ensured Japan achieved many aerial victories.
