Aviation became part of the Norwegian army in 1912, and in 1916 aircraft were used in the navy. On November 10th 1944, during King Haakon VII’s exile, a decree was signed uniting the various air units into the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Norwegian pilots actively participated during the Second World War; first defending their homeland against the Germans, and then as part of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain.
