The Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and artillery system capable of tracking and killing several air targets comes as a new top-tier SPAAG for the Soviets.
96K6 Pantsir-S1, SPAAG, USSR, rank VII
Features:
- Missiles and automatic cannons
- Able to attack up to 4 targets simultaneously
- Huge munition load
- Very high profile
- Poor protection
The 96K6 Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and artillery system, developed in the mid-1990s, was designed to protect strategically important areas, troops and long-range air defense systems. Due to the economic crisis in Russia, the development of the system was sluggish, but hot boosted in the late 90s, with new tactical requirements appearing for export of the system to the UAE. The modified Pantsir with a long-range radar also began to enter service with the Russian army, primarily in the air defense units. The version on the chassis of the KamAZ 8x8 truck appeared in 2006, and after successfully passing the tests, the Pantsir-S1 modification was put into trial operation, and in 2012 commissioned for service. At the moment, systems of the Pantsir family are in service with the Russian army and are constantly upgraded. The air defense system is intensively exported, the largest foreign operators of the Pantsir systems are Morocco, Syria, Algeria, Iraq and other countries.
The 96K6 Pantsir-S1 will appear in War Thunder with the release of the upcoming major update and will become the new top Soviet anti-aircraft vehicle. Being unique in its combat capabilities, the Pantsir combines a mid-range detection radar, 12 effective surface-to-air missiles and rapid-fire 30-mm cannons with HE and AP belts. The real “Sky Guardian” is reporting for service!
Not so long ago, the Tor-M1 air defense system was added to the game, which is capable of attacking two targets at once in a small sector. Pantsir-S1 (Russian for “carapace”) is capable of acquiring targets at distances up to 20 km, as well as simultaneously tracking and firing in the 45x45 degree sector up to four targets at the same time! Let's be honest, the scenario of the appearance of four air targets at once in one sight is unlikely for mixed battles in War Thunder, but if such a scenario comes true, you will be prepared! Jokes aside, a well-positioned Pantsir under ideal conditions alone is able to protect the team from, in general, all enemy aircraft approaching from airfields and at almost any altitude. If the pilot slips the launch and does not maneuver, he will meet with the Pantsir missile. The radar very quickly determines the distance to an air target, and missiles can also be guided by the half-lead method, which is handy against aircraft at extreme attack angles.
In addition to missiles, the system includes a pair of twin-barreled 30-mm cannons with an overall rate of fire of up to 5,000 rounds per minute and a huge ammo capacity. The cannons literally tear apart low-flying air targets and are able to hit light armored vehicles and even some tanks.
The Pantsir-S1 system is built on a KamAZ 8x8 army heavy truck chassis. The truck moves confidently on paved roads, but off-road causes problems due to the heavy weight of the Pantsir unit and a very long chassis. The vehicle has poor armor of up to 6 mm, and with the radar antenna unfolded, it becomes one of the tallest vehicles in War Thunder. Pantsir-S1 can be seen from afar and dies easily from any enemy fire including ordinary machine guns.
Pantsir-S1 is undoubtedly one of the most advanced anti-aircraft systems in the game. It will appear in War Thunder with the release of the Sky Guardians major update, which is almost completed by the dev team. The update is coming soon, and the new devblogs will come sooner!

Comments will be premoderatedHappy to see it! But I have a question. Will the Ito get Mk.3 missiles to give another nation an equivalent so people can stop complaining?
I waited for so long to have this! Thanks Gaijin!
Got to love the hate comments. "WHY DON'T YOU IMPLEMENT A COMPARABLE SYSTEM FOR OTHER NATIONS!"... "WHY DOES ISRAEL STILL NOT HAVE A TOP TIER SPAAG!?"... How about you design them one? You can't punish Russia just because it continues to develop the SPAAG concept, while nations, in particular the West, gave up on them in preference to semi-mobile anti-air systems like the MIM-23 Hawk, MIM-104 Patriot. The most comparable systems would be the Hummer mounted AN/TWQ-1 Avenger and SLAMRAAM prototype
China's Tor-m1 now looks like a clown, and its inferior missiles and a large number of buggy radars make it totally unworthy of being in 11.3
Oh boy I sure do hope yall plan on adding something competitive with this for other nations so top tier does turn back into mig-27s and khamovs stomping stuff that cant fight back like it was not too long ago
Sadly, an equivalent platform does not really exist. The only buff you could give would be to things like the ITO systems where you could give it the MK.3 missiles with enhanced range.
Can you please stop focussing on nations that have already decent Anti Air Equipment? how about one modern AA for the Japanese Tree? you know id really like to play my 11.x Ground Setup but without a decent AA it relys on my Team and well, you know best that if you dont do it yourself it aint got right. i know the japanese AA is quite hard to integrate, how about a rental ADATS or something american, cmon it isnt that hard... find a solution please...
why is russia getting another spaa? it already has an extremely good one and this will arguably be the best spaa when it comes out better the the Tor M1 because it also has 30mm to boot, so what about the Tor M1 coming to russia? doesnt seem it be needing that anymore along with very broken vehiles like 2s38 STILL at 9.7 when otomatic is 10.7, T80BVM, and of course the heli's. nice balancing gaijin. how about adding spaa to nations that actually need it?
I know this isn't going to get the devs to change their mind and they already get a ton of flack from the community. However, with all the stuff missing and being asked for in other nations. I find it a bit sad Dev time was taken away from other nations in order for the USSR to get yet another GF vehicle (despite getting an SPAA last patch, having a fully fledged-out lineup, and one of the best SPAA's in the game in the form of the tunguska).
❤️
Everyone complaining about another Soviet SPAA maybe go complain to British MOD for example for still using old Stormers instead of making new toys so Gaijin can add them
