The main tank prize in the upcoming Battle Pass season “Royal guard” is a new member of the AMX-50 family, a premium French tank equipped with a 90mm gun, oscillating turret and autoloader!
AMX-50 (TO90/930), medium tank, France, rank IV. Premium.
Features:
- 12 rounds automatic loader
- 5 crew members
- Mediocre protection
The AMX-50 prototype series was a French attempt to create a domestic tank design to replace obsolete wartime models. Originally, engineers borrowed many solutions, or even entire components, from the German Tiger II and Panther tanks. However, a number of their own developments were also implemented, in particular, an oscillating turret and an semi-automatic gun feed. One of the variants of the AMX-50 design was a prototype developed in 1950. It featured a 90-mm D.911 APX gun and two rifle-caliber machine guns.
The medium tank AMX-50 (TO90/930) will be the main tank prize of the new season in the Battle Pass “Royal guard”, it will be a Premium vehicle of rank IV in the French tech tree. The new tank with an oscillating turret will offer players a good balance of game characteristics, but will require an insightful approach from the commander for a truly successful game. Let us see details.
The turret, autoloader and gun of the new tank will be familiar to enthusiasts of French armored vehicles from the Char 25t medium tank. A fair combination of rate of fire and armor penetration allow the tank to feel very confident in battles with opponents on its Battle Rating, that is, mainly vehicles of the late WWII and early post-war period. The AMX-50 (TO90/930) does not have access to HEAT rounds, which would allow it to easily deal with the heaviest opponents. However, the M82 chamber AP shells work well against most medium tanks and some self-propelled guns.
One of the main advantages of the vehicle is a 12-round automatic loader, which is an extremely serious argument, especially in close combat. Even if the enemy is clearly superior to you in terms of armor, you can sequentially disable his gun and tracks, and then go on board and finish him.
The chassis of the tank is also familiar to veteran players, this time from the AMX-50 (TOA100) tank. Despite the fact that the general trend of post-war tank engineering was clearly aimed at lightening the armor, the upper front glacis of the AMX-50 (TO90/930) hull has solid 90 mm steel at a rational angle. What an envy for the much less protected Char 25t! At the same time, the dynamics of the new tank are quite good - both the maximum speed of up to 51 km/h and the engine response.
Unfortunately, the hull’s front is the only well-protected part of the AMX-50 (TO90/930), the turret and other hull projections are easily penetrated even by wartime tanks. The commander should use the strong forehead of the hull, turning the tank in a way to increase the chance of ricochets. To increase survivability, it would also be wise to take a limited number of shells into battle in order to free the turret and part of the hull's internal ammunition racks from dangerous cargo.
The premium AMX-50 (TO90/930), the main tank prize in the new season “Royal guard”, will be given to the participants for completing the stages of the War Thunder Battle Pass. Very soon we will present the full list of rules of the upcoming season - stay tuned!

Comments will be premoderatedI love the battlepasses... but i feel like there is no effort done with the last few battlepasses. Russia gets a unique vehicle and the minor nations in the battlepasses get a copy-paste. I feel like the French AMX-50 (1950) should be in the tech tree; instead of in a battlepass. Or is it just me who thinks this way?
I think you are right !
Disagree on this one being in the tech tree since this is a one-off turret-swap test-bed made specifically to test the turret of the Char 25t. Plus, there are other AMX-50s that can be added to the tech tree.
Copy paste plane, boat trading half it's firepower for a rocket rack and this. Ehhh This feels like a skip Remember back when we used to get 4 vehicles before the unique low tier ones got removed and replaced with a day of premium? It just feels like minimal effort was put into this.
Yeah things have been going downhill after season 2. Although I feel this might sell on the marketplace for a decent amount of GJN
French Republic, Soviet Union, but Kingdom of Hungary is what makes this BattlePass Royal Guard? Are we waiting on some British stuff too or what?
Yeah, "Royal Guard" makes it sound British, instead we get an Egyptian boat, a Hungarian copy-paste plane, and a French prototype.
The Bf-109 F-4 was in service of the kingdom of Hungary, the Project 183 is Egyptian, in 1953 the Kingdom of Egypt became the Arab Republic of Egypt, that's the flag on the boat, for the AMX-50 all I could think of is that french tank regiments often have their roots in pre-revolution royal cavalry units, dragoons, cuirassiers,.. But I admit, Royal Guard makes me think mostly of Britain, not really France.
Good to see but the name is very very wrong. It should be called "AMX-50 TO90/930" not AMX-50 (1950). That name doesn't even make sense since this thing was built in 1954.
Name should be update now, cheers!
Lets go the quality of each update goes ever lower!!!!
Okay, now this. This is epic
What's with the season name? The only nation in the BP that's a monarchy was Hungary, and they only had a regent.
Well this makes life easy. I finally do not have to grind like a nut case for two months and can focus on family and grandchild, yipeee.
Sweet!
First the BF 109 and now this? Two thirds of this battlepass are essentially vehicles we've over seen or have before but are slightly modified.
Even the boat is copy paste.
