4th generation Soviet MiG-29 (type 9-13) jet fighter arrives in War Thunder as one of the first rank VIII aircraft
MiG-29 (9-13), jet fighter, USSR, rank VIII
Features:
- Very high speed and climb rate
- Free supersonic maneuvers
- Advanced air-to-air missiles
- Limited fuel
The requirements for a 4th generation fighter were developed in the USSR in 1971. According to them, the Mikoyan Design Bureau came up with a project for a light front-line fighter to provide optimal flight characteristics for modern dogfights. The power plant of the fighter was a pair of double bypass turbojet engines with afterburners, which increased the survivability of the MiG-29 in case of failure or damage to one of them. Also, twin engines easily provided the necessary thrust-to-weight ratio. The construction of the first experimental MiG-29 was completed by August 1977, and on October 6 the aircraft took off to the skies for the first flight. One of the main issues of the first serial MiG-29 was considered its insufficient fuel capacity. The second serial version of the fighter, designated “9-13” received a distinctive hump behind the cockpit, where an overhead fuel tank was supposed to be installed. Soon, however, it was decided to fill this volume with jamming equipment, and use suspended fuel tanks to solve the fuel issue. The MiG-29 (9-13) mass produced since 1986. The only foreign operator of the MiG-29 (9-13) was North Korea, whose Air Forces received several dozen Fulcrums in 1989.
The MiG-29 (9-13) Fulcrum will be one of the first rank VIII fighters in War Thunder, which will appear in the game with the release of the Apex Predators update. This is a fast, twin-engine 4th generation interceptor fighter, capable of dogfighting at supersonic speeds and equipped with an excellent arsenal of air-to-air missiles.
Compared to the light F-16A, the Soviet fighter is much heavier and does not have a zooming throttle response, but offers a slightly better climb rate and maximum speed. As a result, the Fulcrum goes supersonic a little longer, but is able to maneuver almost freely at speeds of about Mach 1 without losing much energy. At high altitudes the MiG is able to keep high speeds of over Mach 2 and patrol the “upper floor”, controlling almost the entire battlefield.
According to its concept, the MiG-29 was designed primarily as an interceptor, but it is still able to provide air support to ground troops with conventional ordnance, such as heavy S-24B rockets, S-8KO rocket pods, incendiary and HE bombs. However, the main weapon choice of the Fulcrum is air-to-air missiles! In addition to the familiar short range R-60М missiles, the twin-tail MiG also receives new R-27T and R-27R missiles. These models are improved versions of the R-24 series in terms of the G-tolerance. The R-27T with a passive IR homing seeker has a very good jamming immunity, and the R-27R semi-active radar-homing missile has a radio correction of the inertial navigation system.
As in the case with other rank VIII fighters, we recommend you to pay special attention to the pilot training of the g-forces tolerance. A well-trained pilot will not lose control of the fighter and will allow you to fully enjoy the MiG-29 in supersonic dogfights.
The excellent MiG-29 and F-16A, as well as other rank VIII fighters, new ground and air vehicles, new locations, and many improvements and fixes are almost ready to deploy to War Thunder in the upcoming Apex Predators update! Stay tuned to the news!

Comments will be premoderatedHonestly, i believe the AIM-9L is as dangerous as the R-73. Difference being the 9L is more flare resistant. I don't think the R-73 will be as broken as people think, mostly because it can be fooled by flares quite easily, as long as you are paying attention and manage to see it in time.
Wait just a second. You put F16A in the game with 20sec turning rate, and you also put the notorious MIG-29 4th gen fighter in the game to counter it, with 3th gen missiles? Because "It's too op"?, I'm sorry, but in real life, In history it's op too. No one MIG-29(9.13) ever fought with R-60's, because it would have been a suicide mission. From the strongest, it will be the weakest 4th gen fighter in the game. In real life: R73 - R77 missiles, in game: R60 - R27 missiles...
First of all, this is not history, it is a game. Also, you cannot only take the "good" part only about this aircraft while ignoring the rest of the factors. The very first mig29 entered service at 1983, during her service she will more likely to face f/a18 and f16c, instead of f4 of f5 in game. Also, we are talking about product 9.13 here, which is developed in 1994, which has a even higher probability to face aim120 (entered service 1994) and aim9M (largly deployed 1990-1991)
It is not an issue on how it performs historically, it is an issue on how it will so out perform than any counterpart it have currently in game. It is ok to have R73 and R77 in game, as long as their counterparts like aim120 and 9m are also implimented at the same time. Clearly you have no experience in the current dev server. Highly recommend you get yourself such experience, with both stock aircrafts and their full models against mig29 w/ r73

Where is R-73? are you seriously gonna give the 1st 4th gen jet of USSR the absoultely useless R-60M that gets countered by 1 single flare, and has <2km range?
It still has the new bvr radar missiles. You know, the most important missiles
IT'S ME
A: If they Do decide to add the R73, all aircraft capable of carrying Aim-9Ls that currently do not have aim 9Ls available should receive them (OR) B: aim 9 Ls should have their capabilities increased. This would be less optimal due to the A-10 and other lower BR aircraft having them however. Lastly C: Do not include the R73 initially until the F/A-18 is added as a counter to it. HOWEVER add the R27EA (active radar version) as an option for the Mig 29 to take.
Are we getting the MiG-29A for the east german line? It's the end all of that line and it would really have been a waste of time grinding that line if the MiG-29A becomes an event vehicle.
Is the requirement of 5 rank 7 aircraft in order to unlock rank 8 aircraft going to stay in the full release. Because at the moment you're required to have all the rank 7 lines in the USSR tree to actually unlock the mig-29.
Adding the MiG-29S without the R-77 is already worse enough since its the first MiG-29 which issued it, but if you removed the R-73 aswell you can ditch the whole plane already the MiG is nothing without its missiles.
please still add this jet with the R73 at least make it to where your only able to equip 2 or something i would compromise with that rather than not get them at all!!!
