The Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) was an experimental version of the well-known British Beaufighter heavy fighter, serving as a testbed for the newly developed 40mm aircraft cannons in the early 1940’s. This unique vehicle awaits pilots as one of the main prizes in the upcoming new season of War Thunder Battle Pass!
Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm),strike aircraft, Britain, rank II, premium
Features
- Deadly 40mm cannons
- Limited ammunition
- Good flight characteristics
- Premium bonuses
In 1941, British engineers continued conducting armament trials with the Beaufighter, introduced into service in the previous year. Despite already being one of the most heavily armed aircraft in the world at the time, British engineers conducted tests of the newly developed 40mm cannon and fitted two different cannons to one of the early prototypes of the Beaufighter. The results concluded that the experimental version of the Vickers S cannon was more preferable, it was then subsequently further developed and eventually found its way into purpose-designed ground attack versions of the Hurricane fighter.
The Beaufighter is a heavy fighter known and loved by British pilots most notably for its extremely heavy armament and its good looks, present even in early modifications. The Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) is an early prototype of the heavy fighter, which instead of entering regular service, continued being used as a testbed by engineers. This specific version is fitted with a pair of 40mm autocannons, capable of dealing some truly devastating damage, even to heavily armoured ground units!
Unlike other modifications of the Beaufighter, this experimental version of the heavy fighter is much better equipped to successfully combat armoured ground units. While regular modifications rely primarily on secondary weapons to do this, the Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) can simply engage enemy tanks with its nose-mounted 40mm cannons, capable of punching through a not so inconsiderable amount of armour plating. However, pilots ought to keep in mind the limited ammunition capacity of the fitted 40mm cannons. Being able to only pull the trigger 28 times, aspiring pilots of this aircraft will need to be precise with their shooting and make every shot count. On the other hand, one well-placed salvo is sure of severely crippling a typical ground vehicle found at this rank while the aircraft will most certainly stand no chance in a direct hit!
Be sure to add the unique Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) to your in-game collection by taking part in the upcoming new season of the War Thunder Battle Pass. Clear skies and good hunting pilots!

Okay, so I was wrong about the PT-76-57 being a free vehicle. But, seriously? This is basically a much worse Tu-1 with the only saving grace being a mismatched big cannons. It may be able to one-tap anything, but knowing how bad the Beaufighter's performance is, it's gonna be a sitting duck against any pilot that didn't head-on it.
lol what do you think hs129 are? but i agree that a br lower or aphe ammo need to be given since the duck 75 has a pak 40 firepower and is i believe 2.3
It's 3.0 ofc it's gonna be a worse Tu-1(◍•ᴗ•◍)
This is not Sabre-Powered Fury.We need Sabre-Powered Fury.We want Sabre-Powered Fury.Give us Sabre-Powered Fury
Someone else that knows of this gem! I'd have loved to have seen this as the reward, but no. :(
Delta_Vel, Same :(
Love it, but maybe the writeup could note this was R2055, one of the 4 pre-production prototypes, modified in this way just for aerial testing of the 2 proposed RAF 40mm aerial cannons against each other. It was a temporary test bed, not a combat aircraft.
Wow, a new Beaufighter? Hot damn, I'm in!
if u gaijin change back system BP, many ppl will buy this BP. i skip 2 BP coz must lvl 125 for sell vehicle BP ur system BP now suck, not many ppl can up to lvl 125, and u give us useless vehicle we cant sell in BP. and ur challenges in BP not make sense for us up to lvl 100+ u force player playing ship for challenges do u think we open vehicle all nation? open heli and plane already suffering and u force us do naval battle for challenges for up to lvl 125.
Sigh...just FYI there is a way to get over 125 WITHOUT touching the nasty boats, here is the trick...just keep a special running at all times. I made it to level 139 with a week to go without doing a single boat challenge by simply doing 37 specials. That said with such sad prizes unless the warbond shop is amazing really not gonna bother.
Hairyfeet, the problem is not all ppl can spend time in battle pass, from first battle pass until this battle pass my average lvl battle pass only can reach arround 90, fast up lvl battle pass do challenge coz give many point only this game battle pass suck other game BP ez lvl up than BP WT, battle pass WT lvl up only login, daily mission, star mission and challenges. other game have per match xp for lvl up BP but this game not
Damn, a squad full of these would be a nasty encounter, looks like an awesome plane. If it's the free plane, I'll be grinding the battle pass to get it, regardless of all that Rank 3 nonsense.
disapointment
No MG to the rear? Or it will be implement?
This plane activates my almonds
Can you please add 40mm pom poms to the airfields so planes cant endlessly circle above your spawn and dive and insta kill you? Having like 8-10 pom poms on each airfield would obliterate any plane trying that strategy, so that players actually get to play the game instead of having griefers and exploiters ruining the game for everyone.
LMAO how about NO, does that work for you? We already have so many doing donuts around the airfields to try to exploit the AF AA for a cheap win, and you want MORE? Dude I just put up a vid where we had not one, not two, but SEVEN camping their airfields within less than 5 minutes of match start to try to get an easy win on tickets. if I had my way we would go back to 2016 and airfield AA wouldn't exist, last thing we need is more of it.
Hairyfeet, I am just curious, how does it feel to be THIS wrong? People circling the spawn waiting for free kills needs to stop, and the way you stop it is by adding anti air to kill them and force them back into the actual fight.
