The Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) was an experimental version of the well-known British Beaufighter heavy fighter, serving as a testbed for the newly developed 40mm aircraft cannons in the early 1940’s. This unique vehicle awaits pilots as one of the main prizes in the upcoming new season of War Thunder Battle Pass!
Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm),strike aircraft, Britain, rank II, premium
Features
- Deadly 40mm cannons
- Limited ammunition
- Good flight characteristics
- Premium bonuses
In 1941, British engineers continued conducting armament trials with the Beaufighter, introduced into service in the previous year. Despite already being one of the most heavily armed aircraft in the world at the time, British engineers conducted tests of the newly developed 40mm cannon and fitted two different cannons to one of the early prototypes of the Beaufighter. The results concluded that the experimental version of the Vickers S cannon was more preferable, it was then subsequently further developed and eventually found its way into purpose-designed ground attack versions of the Hurricane fighter.
The Beaufighter is a heavy fighter known and loved by British pilots most notably for its extremely heavy armament and its good looks, present even in early modifications. The Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) is an early prototype of the heavy fighter, which instead of entering regular service, continued being used as a testbed by engineers. This specific version is fitted with a pair of 40mm autocannons, capable of dealing some truly devastating damage, even to heavily armoured ground units!
Unlike other modifications of the Beaufighter, this experimental version of the heavy fighter is much better equipped to successfully combat armoured ground units. While regular modifications rely primarily on secondary weapons to do this, the Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) can simply engage enemy tanks with its nose-mounted 40mm cannons, capable of punching through a not so inconsiderable amount of armour plating. However, pilots ought to keep in mind the limited ammunition capacity of the fitted 40mm cannons. Being able to only pull the trigger 28 times, aspiring pilots of this aircraft will need to be precise with their shooting and make every shot count. On the other hand, one well-placed salvo is sure of severely crippling a typical ground vehicle found at this rank while the aircraft will most certainly stand no chance in a direct hit!
Be sure to add the unique Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) to your in-game collection by taking part in the upcoming new season of the War Thunder Battle Pass. Clear skies and good hunting pilots!

not even a rank 3 plane? these passes are getting worse and worse!
Hey but the group of "What about more *Insert WW2 vehicle needed* gaijin?" people got something.
Dozer15, There's plenty of interesting WW2 vehicles that are powerful enough to be in rank 3. and even if they're not, the XF5F is 2.7 rank 3! so BR has nothing to do with rank!
Battlepass season is lame..
shame
say you
Can gaijin stop with rank III requirement for battlepass trasks and instead use the 3.0 or 3.3 br for tasks, some rank III vehicles shouldn't allow to do tasks because really low br (especially 40mm bofors spaa) and a lot of rank II vehicles are 3.3 but can't be used (like m24 chaffee and m10) and disadvantages smaller nations. That would also make the beafighter 40mm relevant for the next BP.
That requirement is ridiculous given that the main free prize is not even rank III
Pudrian, With each BP seasons, seems like the prizes are getting more ordinary for the same amount of money. Season 1 was great. Then challenges became harder but the vehicles were still worth it. But now the vehicles are underwhelming as well.
Stona personal question. When will you guys bring back RB EC and Naval EC ?
A Beaufighter ?! What year is it?? 2013? Not that i'm complaining, brings back some old memories from back then
Double blast from the past :)
Stona_WT, are we getting more news today?
Always nice to see these type of planes; the all mighty Beaufighter 💯
PaperyHorizon69@live, Would you like OP or some copy-paste vehicle instead?
_PanzerNinja_, _PanzerNinja_ you do realize that there can be vehicles between OP and copy paste right? This thing is just garbage.
Now the last hope we have for this battlepass is warbonds shop. Otherwise might as well not play until winter.
Exactly. It looks like the warbond shop premiums might be the only reason to play through this nightmare of a BP.
So in next season battle pass there is a boat, a light tank that will get knocked out by every plane, an open top AA(?) and now an early war plane. Yea, all of it could be in a standard tree. I'll pass on this battle pass, which means I can play something else for 3 months.
Great vehicle but not as a level 50 free reward. Rank II is too low for such a reward. Players need incentive to grind the battle pass and this is not it.
The incentive is to remove arbitrary rank 3 fun restriction BS. Make Rank 2 for all tasks at minimum and now we have FUN battlepass.
Wow 2 Battle Passes in a row that are completely worthless to anyone but tankers, gee look at how my CC goes back into my wallet...aaaannnndddd its gone.
