The Leopard 2PL is an ongoing joint project for the modernization of the Leopard 2A4 tanks in service with the Polish army, currently being carried out by the German company Rheinmetall AG and the Polish state-owned Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa. The aim of the program is to improve the combat efficiency of the elderly Leopards to 3rd generation plus level main battle tanks.
The main areas of modernization are improving the tank's protection and firepower. The Leopard 2PL has additional modular turret armor (forehead and sides), enhanced protection of the gun mantlet. On the turret’s rear, massive boxes appeared, which under some circumstances can work as spaced armor for protection against HEAT shells. The L44 cannon remains the same, but the upgraded fire control system has modern thermal imaging equipment and is adapted for firing more powerful rounds. Since the power plant and chassis of the Leopard 2A4 remained unchanged, the additional protection of the hull had to be abandoned, as the weight of the tank approached 60 tons. In total, 128 Leopard 2A4’s in service are to be upgraded under the Leopard 2PL program.
In War Thunder, the Leopard 2PL will become a new squadron vehicle and will appear after release of the “Ixwa Strike” update. The add-on armor modules on the turret significantly improve the tank's resistance to hits from HE and to a lesser extent kinetic projectiles, and the upgraded fire-control system will allow the use of advanced rounds: the new to the game programmable high-explosive fragmentation DM11 projectile and the effective DM33 APFSDS shell.
The Leopard 2PL fire control system has all major features of modern main battle tanks: a high-quality stabilizer, night vision devices, a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder. Unfortunately, due to the high weight of the turret's armored modules, the hull armor of the Leopard 2PL remained unchanged from the 2A4 version, making it vulnerable to almost any hit in the hull, especially from sides.

They won't, not for some time at least, because Gaijin prefers catering to their Russian and wehraboo players
FlyingHollander1, ....And when they do finally get one it will be nerfed into oblivion without any DU armor inserts in the hull and made to use training rounds. Then they'll use the excuse that it's armor is classified and this is the best estimate value they can do. The problem with that is they don't apply that evenly across all nations. Some nations get the highest possible guesstimate values and others the lowest.

Squadron vehilces more money for because hungry wherabos are gona spend 10 000 GE to buy it. Way to go make a tank thats not like the real life varient, make money of it and cascadely ruin german superiority at top tier(somewhat for maybe a few months).These are stop gap meassures! Modern tanks require modern battlefields! This T3 maps are pathetic for modern gameplay where one nation gets all the advantages because they are at they worst aspects better then best aspects of thier opponents.

Im maining Italy, so its better to just uninstall Game then wait for Vehicle for minor Nation. Italy still don't have Dardo IFV, and at least 5 jets, like I don't know, A-11? MB-339?
Gaijin be like: "we will introduce new MBTs that will be able to compete with the Leopard 2 series." also Gaijin: *gives Germany another Leopard* keep spoonfeeding the wehraboos, Gaijin GmbH. I won't even be surprised if the K2, Armata, ZTZ99A, type 10 and M1A2 SEP come to the German tree, deducing on how you add patches.

(A4+a little bit of armor) Reality: "The modernization of the Leopard 2A4 to the 2PL standard includes the strengthening of the ballistic resistance of the turret to a level exceeding that of the machines in the Leopard 2A5 version" + DM63 armor-piercing shell (level of A5 and higher) Wasted chance!!
Oh no it didn´t instantly get its finally potential at release for reasons looks like phantoms, mig-21s, abrams, t-80s, leopard 1s, .......... and the majority of other modern vehicles are missed chances, it will get that shit eventually, not like it needs it to begin with.......
KleinerGrenadier, There not much vehicles for higher brs to follow the 2A6 in the future. Why should you take a 2019 vehicle and nerf it down to a slightly upgraded 2A4. This vehicle is supposed to sit at an higher level. There are many A4 mods which fit the role better. If they will ever change that vehicle it will take years. You would be pissed off aswell when your high end M1 gets to early into the game with only half it's potential, even more when other nations have even better mbts to come.
do germany gets everything? i mean, the C2A1 Mexas should belong to G-B if the amx 13 105 is in the german tech tree... that leo 2 have shot its first ammo, two weeks ago? how come many countries doesn't have any proper top tier line-up and there is a 2021 tank? ughhh idk what to think anymore :(

Very sad addition. While the tank looks good, it will go to a tech tree that got a lot of top tiers in 4 updates straight. While the Type 10 can't be added because of "classified information", being the 2 PL is as much as classified. Guess we will have to use the, now almost 3 year old tank, Type 90 against another brand new, and better, Leopard. :(
Don't worry the Type 90 got bumped to 10.7 on test server and reload reduced to 4 seconds. It must mean the Type 90 is equal to the Leopard 2A5/6... well at least Gaijin believes that, they are amazing like that.
