USS Baltimore (CA-68) (1943), Rank V, USA, Event
This vehicle will be the exclusive award in the “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.” event.
The development of new heavy cruisers for the US Navy began after the outbreak of World War II. The restrictions of the London and Washington Treaties ceased to be relevant, so the United States enthusiastically began to refine the projects built within the limits of the restrictions. Based on the heavy cruisers of the USS Wichita class, a new cruiser was developed to correct the issues of its predecessor, namely low stability and a shortage of anti-aircraft weapons, and also with improved seaworthiness, protection and range. The lead ship of the new series, the heavy cruiser USS Baltimore, was laid down in 1941. The distinctive features of the new large series of cruisers are extremely powerful and versatile anti-aircraft weapons and an increased hull width for increased stability. The USS Baltimore entered service in 1943 and immediately began performing combat missions in the Pacific. Until the end of World War II, Baltimore was in the midst of naval war, taking part in a number of US operations. After a short "vacation" it was re-commissioned in 1951, but did not take part in the new, Korean War. The ship was decommissioned from service in May 1956.
In our game, the heavy cruiser Baltimore will be the main naval prize in the “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.” event. This is a very harmonious blue-water ship - according to many experts, the Baltimore class is the best among all heavy cruisers from the war period. Featuring very decent protection (armor belt up to 152mm, armor of the main battery turrets up to 203 mm), Baltimore has fairly good speed. The main caliber guns of the cruiser are nine 203 mm guns in three triple-gun turrets, while the commander is offered a choice of several types of shells. Auxiliary artillery - six twin-barreled 127mm universal turrets. AA artillery truly gives zest to this ship. Baltimore is protected from air attacks by 12 quad 40mm Bofors mounts, and 24 rapid-fire 20mm Oerlikon autocannons. Perhaps this is a new record in the game!

Gaijin can you please make sure the baltimore is accurate and nonbugged for everyone please. At current USN Haeay Cruisers state baltimore will be dead as she enters the game. The 8in guns have a very inaccurate dispersion that is not only historicaly accurate but is horrible for fun gameplay. The last 3 ships have had horrible bugs and inaccuracies in their armor. While 15 seconds is a whole lot better compared to earlier cruisers it would be nice to have the option to que ball in order to i...
Wonderful! This is my W.I.N.T.E.R goal. At last a chance to get a good US ship to grind USN! I just hope it gets its super heavy shells, they were underperforming by 50ish mm in the dev server!
Naval still needs a major overhaul with BB's starting at least on 6.7 so they wont club light cruisers and even destroyers... Plus real objectives for high tier so they're not determined by a little PT boat capping the points and then you can't even sail over to recap them before the game is over... So utterly poorly balanced... Also overrun by Soviet coastal ships from 1950-1980 auto cannons and miniguns etc vs ww1-2 ships, completely messed up.
What are the planes that are hanging in the back of the ship?
Either OS2U Kingfishers or the later Curtiss SC Seahawks, they were used for scouting. Supporting scout planes was one of the primary roles of the US Cruisers, and one of the main things they were designed around conceptually.
All answers (1)Flipped_StuG, Those are Kingfishers, SC Seahawks have a bubble canopy.
They are kingfishers.

I don't know why Baltimore is an Event ship, I was expecting Wichita to be an event ship (though I'd be glad if she ends up in the tech tree). I was expecting that if a Baltimore ended up as an event vehicle it would've been USS Saint Paul or USS Pittsburgh, and Baltimore would've ended up in the tech tree as the name ship of the class.
There is never too much AA))))
