In honour of the 105th anniversary of the birthday of the famous pilot Pokryshkin, his P-39N-0 is available for purchase until 09:00 GMT on the 21st of March.
Alexander Pokryshkin was born on March the 6th, 1913 (Gregorian calendar, March 19th, 1913) in Novonikolaevsk in the Urals. Since childhood, he dreamed of aviation and was ready to do everything to make this dream come true.
Against the wishes of his parents, young Alexander entered craftsman school as he could only enroll as a pilot if he acquired a profession, which Pokryshkin achieved after 4 years. During his studies, he completed a two-year flying course in just 17 days and passed his exams with the highest score
Upon completion of flight school, Pokryshkin joined the 55th GIAP (Gvardeyskiy Istrebitelnyy Aviatsionyy Polk, Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment) at Balti airbase near the Soviet-Romanian border at that time. Alexander devoted all his spare time in self-study of various disciplines which was likely to have had significant influence in the mastery of his profession. Another special period in Pokryshkins life was physical training: to control the machine in combat, a pilot needed great physical strength and a developed situational awareness. During his time in the 55th, Pokryshkin flew the I-15, I-153 and the MiG-3.
In the fierce battles during his war against experienced opponents, Pokryshkin soon realized the need to streamline the ways of conducting air combat. One of his self penned journals that came out of this was "Fighter Tactics in Combat", pilot notes” that were later passed to the Central Armed Forces Museum.
During the war, Pokryshkin was entrusted with the training of young pilots, teaching them everything he had learned by example. At the end the war, Colonel Pokryshkin was ordered to take command of the 9th Guards Air Division. He flew 650 combat sorties, in which he achieved 59 individual and 6 shared kills.

Will there Be anything Similar to This For Japanese Pilots?
Afaik we do not have hidden Japanese aircraft in game.
Stona_WT, U have.
Nice, talking about anniversaries: is anything happening with RAF 100?
Yes, April Fools Day 8)
TheElite96, Exactly, 1st April 1918 XD RAF basic training comes in handy
IIRC Pokryshkin's first confirmed kill was a friendly Su-2. Pilots make mistakes. The good ones survive the mistake. Great ones learn from it. His book "Wings in combat" (roughly translated, I do not have it in EN) was a good read, showing how he had to fight both in air (against enemy) and on ground (against his superiors).
And he acknowledged this in his book, which btw is more interesting in tactical descriptions than most. Also his wingman's book is worth reading. I liked both of them more than Kozhedub's autobiographies.
Finally! I want that P-39.
Hope you will like it!
Love it when these special planes are offered. Why not do it more often? Players get what they want and Gaijin makes money, it's a win-win!
You have to buy the plane not get it free, I have his American made P-39 that he got most of his kills in for free by doing a challenge in War Thunder when they where giving away free stuff, now everything is to buy..
already have that plane from some tournament.... and it's terribly bad, just fyi ;)
Wonder how long before gaijin deletes this comment?
Actually its a decent premium for its tier/battle rating. losing the extra .30s forces you to rely on the 37mm. Much Like Pokryshkin, his plane in game helps you practice with nose mounted Big calibers in the rest of the Russian Yak line. (And also as a by product parts of the German, American, and Japanese trees). No it's not an easy plane to fly and rack up kills with easily, but it is fun. I've enjoyed it a lot.
DUDE THATS MY FREINDS RELATIVE NO JOKE
YEAH AND THATS MY MOM TOO NO JOKE
Very fun aircraft, performs well without the addition .30cals in the wings and it’s a decent tier III premium. I recommend it
I bought just cause I like to collect everything in a game. Please someone help me, I never finished Skyrim cause of my OCD Collector mind haha.
You are not alone, I have that same problem with premiums and rare vehicles in War Thunder. They are like Pokemon, gotta catch'em (er, collect them) all!
Not alone. I am a completionist too. My OCD forces me to collect things, specially when they are not always available. Damn you Gaijin, my wallet can't keep up.
I don't want to spoil the party or play down what this gentleman achieved, but reading into the related English Wikipedia article about Alexander Pokryshkin, it was mentioned that he flew 560 combat missions, not 650. The Russian equivalent states 650... one of them has a number twist... which one? :D
