Research and purchase requirements reduced for rank 3-5 ground vehicles
As we promised previously, we are reducing the RP requirements as well as the prices in SL for vehicles, modifications, repairs and ammo in ground vehicles of ranks 3-5!
As we introduced rank 6 armoured vehicles, we had to rework research progress for the earlier ranks. Initially War Thunder was originally planned to have only 5 ranks, so research progress and game economy was designed in such a way that players would not reach top tier machines too quickly, so that they would understand all the mechanics of battle and unlock rank 5 as an experienced commander. But additionally, the progress shouldn’t take too long either - otherwise the game would be boring.
After the introduction of rank 6 we had to rework the existing system. Firstly we made progress from rank 5 to 6 smoother in terms of RP and SL requirements than from rank 4 to 5. As for the earlier ranks - it took a lot of work to make the whole progress balanced and we are now happy to announce that the changes will be implemented in one of the nearest updates.
These changes actually mean that:
- RP requirements for vehicle and modification research will be reduced
- SL requirements for vehicle and modification purchase will be reduced
- Repair costs will be reduced
- Ammunition cost will be reduced
- Crew training will be reduced
- Expert and ace crew qualification will be reduced
Besides this we are bringing back the requirement to own the Sturer Emil in order to purchase the Jpz 4-5 and also the requirement to own the Jpz 4-5 to purchase RakJPz 2. These requirements were temporarily removed when the Jpz 4-5 was moved to the lightly armoured TDs branch.
The list of rank changes from 5 to 6 are available here
Research points requirements and prices changes
Preliminary research and purchase changes for ground vehicles rank 3-5
When the economy update is released the mentioned changes will affect the majority of rank 3-5 ground vehicles in all nations.
All of the above mentioned changes will come into effect in one of the following updates but the exact date may still change, follow the news!
The list of BR changes for aircraft are available here
Have fun and see you on the battlefield!

Hi guys please continue discussion here https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/389317-development-preliminary-research-and-purchase-changes-for-ground-vehicles-rank-3-5/
Convertible research points <=RIP who spend $$
thank you so much from the deep of our heart
Superb news, thx gaijin. But pls answer this specific questions. I finished my T62 research but didn't buy it yet. Now whet T62 shift to tier 6, will I be able to buy it after patch with only one tier V in my tree? Wil be T64 still research line independent or will I need to get T55A first? About my Japan tree, it seems there will be tank deficit on tier 5. Arn't you planning to shift type61 to this tier? What will be the tank numbers requirements for t4>t5 and t5>t6? Thx for answer.
Moving the Type 74 and Type 87 from tier 5 to tier 6 was not exactly what we had in mind -__-
What happens if when the change occurs you suddenly have enough RP to finish a vehicle? Do you just get it instantly or will the game freak out?
You will unlock it instantly (well, after restart of the game ;) ) and you will be able to buy it.
Both :D Hold off buying new vehicles, maybe research others if you're close to fully researching something. No need in wasting RP that could be used on another tank.
So Rank IV premium tanks just become useless now We have to play those Rank V tank in standard tree to research some 'NEW' Rank VI tanks, like we never pay And every body just go buy those expensive Rank VI premium vehicles, well done We paid to you, we made benefit for Gaijin, then we have this Just stop putting those vehicles to Rank VI and make more Rank VI vehicles, real Rank VI vehicles. And yes you dont need reduce those RP and prize, just let them be the last part of Rank V
So i only need 100k for my BMP-1 if the update hits will i just be able to buy it or will i need to start the whole research again ?
change recent changes of the maps to the old ones or you will never see my money again
This is a ridiculous response from Gaijin. Its absurd that the current research doesn't get compensated. While I'm not a very old player myself to have got into the (already) super boring and lengthy research of Tier 4 and 5 I can state with confidence that Gaijin are throwing the old players out of the window and only trying to give space to the newer ones. What is the meaning of this? It doesn't compare at all to a shop item, Mr Stona. There's no reason at all to not compensate.
Furthermore, If this is some sort of decision to try and get more players into the game (and if its to somehow gain further profit from those players), I can recall that this decision only annoys the current playerbase and will cause a loss of players over the long period of time. (And just to explain why a shop item doesn't compare, its that there's a market for pricing due to inflation in the real world, meanwhile RP is virtual and War Thunder is just a game)
How about a boost in RP and SL rewards for the battles? Especially for those high cost rounds and vehicles to operate. It seems the only way to get a good reward is to participate in EVERY aspect of the battle which is nearly impossible and not realistic. I would rather see a better pay out than this because at this point, this doesn't help me at all. None of the top vehicles are lower priced than before.
I have almost 5,000 hours in this game and still don't have a single nation where I have all rank 5 vehicles. It's too hard and takes too long and I don't see this change as one that will help much with that aspect.
