We are pleased to announce the release of a new, seventh nation in War Thunder - France! The 1.73 update will add more than 30 French aircraft to the game - from the fighters of the 30s to multirole post-war jet models.

We spent more than a year in development, searching for various references and painstakingly recreating these rare planes to make War Thunder’s French aviation. We are sure that the pilots of War Thunder will look forward to finally testing these machines in battle.” |
Fighter pilots will join the ranks of the French Air Force tree in the Dewoitine D.371, which was one of France’s first developments away from the old-fashioned biplanes to the faster but still maneuverable monoplanes. While the D.371 did not participate in the battles of World War II, it earned recognition during the Spanish Civil War, where it fought on the Republican side against the Nationalist forces, amongst them, future Luftwaffe aces. Three variations of this fighter with different machine gun armaments will be available immediately after release, as well as the premium D.371 H.S.9 with two 20mm cannons.
During the war, a growing characteristic of French aviation design was the tendency towards universal, multi-purpose combat aircraft. In the post-war era, this tendency became the standard design philosophy for French jet aircraft. By a successful combination of various offensive and secondary armaments, those aircraft could successfully perform the tasks of both fighters and bombers.
A prime example of this philosophy is the SNCASO SO.8000 Narval, a highly unusual fighter with a pusher propeller design. This aircraft can excel at a variety of tasks, from intercepting enemy aircraft to supporting ground forces and reconnaissance. In its standard configuration the SO.8000 features an impressive armament of six 20mm cannons, but if the aircraft is tasked to engage ground targets, it can be further equipped with 8 unguided rockets and two bombs.

Will the French aircraft be flying with Germany and Italy, as Vichy France, or on the side of the Allies as the Free French? Could there be both? Would be interesting to have French on French in RB :D
Like it matters now. There is no realistic team allies. Got Germans using both west and east equipment and Always the enemy for Brits. Realism is going down the pan. As for the French... they will probably get British and German equipment just to fill in the gap of most of WW2... Being their development stopped.
Vichy France didn't fought with Germany and Italy. It wasn't considered as axis ally by Germany. The (weak) vichy forces existed just to defend french territory (in fact remaining colonies in africa and asia).
dunno why so many whiners for i play some planes and get rekt alot and the planes part to me does seem a bit op they 1 tap my pilot alot but i mainly play ground forces enjoy them more up till tier 2 in german and america i was unstopable now i got tier 3 german 5.7 tigers and panther D and the first 100 matches or so i got rekt from tier 5 tanks from russia and america as there BR's are lower but after a while i got the hang of maps and angling them ect and im back ontop of my game ps its FREE

It's nice to get new nations, and the French did have a number of interesting aircraft. But this will probably bring a new problem for RB Air. I can't see that France had airforce in the Pacific Theatre of War during WWII, so this would be rather un-historical (as bad as Japan in Europe). Or will Gaijin tie them to european maps for Tier I-IV - and long waiting times? Not sure that I prefer new nations now. Please fix main game concepts instead.

Wait... since France did not have much WW2 Aircraft does that lead to being forced to add some later Jet Aircraft to fill up the tree's with a little more planes?! (just a THEORY)
How about barrage Balloons with gunners protecting ground/Water forces and bases?

I don't get war thunder update/patch numbers lol anyhow, awesome. but please focus on Italian tanks :) I wanna kill thanks with my F84G ill pre-order the 30 euro one at the end of this month :) keep on the good work (ps, is there any idea about when the naval tech-tree will be released? so far tests only included a few ships, and not even the one I bought with rockets... unless I missed a test or so)
