Originally released in Russia on November the 24th, 2016 to critical acclaim, the movie “Panfilov’s 28” is based on a true story that took place during the heroic defence of Moscow in November of 1941. The Red Army’s 316th Rifle Division, under the command of Ivan Panfilov, held back Germany’s advance on Moscow. Heavily outgunned and outnumbered by the German forces (over 50 armoured vehicles supported by artillery, aviation and infantry), the heroiс company of Panfilov’s division was assaulted and bombarded for several days.
The story begins during the assault, where only 28 soldiers remained alive, still holding their ground, armed with limited ammo and inadequate anti-tank weapons, but still they stood their ground and fought with uncommon bravery and dedication, risking their lives to protect Moscow and each other against the Nazi invaders. “Panfilov’s 28” is their story.
Now everyone can enjoy the film as it is being released today in the US and Canada through Amazon, Google and the Apple iTunes store (link to Canadian ITunes store). The release of the film is especially fitting as the 1st and 2nd of September marks the anniversary of the beginning and end of World War 2.
The Panfilov 28 film studio and Gaijin would like to extend a massive thank you to all our supporters and fans who contributed to this joint project, without your support, the completion of this epic movie would not have been possible. The film will also be released in other countries - stay tuned!
