On August the 7th, 1942, the Allied forces in the Pacific commenced with 'Operation Watchtower', which was the codename for the invasion of Guadalcanal and its surrounding islands. In this fierce battle, which was to become the first major Allied offensive against the Empire of Japan during World War II, hundreds of aircraft clashed in combat in the skies above the the pacific ocean.
