Introducing the AMV (BMP-3)!

This vehicle combines the Finnish Patria AMV wheeled chassis with the turret of the Russian BMP-3! The BMP-3’s turret, featuring a 30 mm automatic cannon and a 100 mm gun-launcher capable of firing tandem-warhead ATGMs, is now mounted on a fast wheeled chassis. Let’s take a closer look!

Using the AMV (BMP-3) in Battle

The AMV (BMP-3) combines the best features of both platforms. The Patria chassis utilizes an 8x8 wheel configuration and is capable of speeds of 100 km/h. Its BMP-3 combat module, equipped with thermal imaging, is well-suited for both close-range and long-range engagements. In urban combat, the 30 mm autocannon is highly effective, while the 100 mm gun’s HE rounds prove useful against light targets. The vehicle’s performance differs significantly at long ranges, where anti-tank missiles become the primary weapon. Although its armor is not designed to withstand tank shells, it reliably resists machine-gun fire and can even survive hits from certain early-generation ATGMs thanks to its composite armor.

Feature Spotlight: Two Cannons

The BMP-3 turret features different types of weaponry, it has a 100 mm gun-launcher, a 30 mm automatic cannon, and a machine gun. While the 100 mm gun’s ammunition includes HE shells, its most effective rounds are Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, of which you can carry up to eight. The 30 mm gun has HE belts that are useful against helicopters, while APDS rounds are great in close-range engagements against armored vehicles, allowing you to disable guns, tracks and strike enemy tanks in the flank!

Developer comment: The Patria AMV is a promising modern modular platform. Players are already familiar with it via the Finnish CT-CV 105HP, though the AMV (BMP-3) variant utilizes an upgraded, extended chassis with increased spacing between the second and third wheel pairs. This new Patria offers a fresh take on the mobile chassis, and most importantly it’s Sweden’s first wheeled tank at rank VI. It serves as a strong alternative to the tracked CV series, particularly on urban maps with paved roads where the AMV (BMP-3) truly shines!

Vehicle History▼

In 2007, a wheeled Patria vehicle featuring the BMP-3 turret was unveiled at the IDEX exhibition. In January 2008, the UAE ordered 15 extended-hull Patria AMV chassis. The plan was to equip them with turrets from the BMP-3 (which was already in service with the UAE) featuring Namut thermal imaging sights. In 2016, the UAE General Staff ordered another 40 Patria AMV chassis, with an option for an additional 50 units. The exact number of vehicles currently in service remains unknown.

You can get the AMV (BMP-3) through the Desert Predator vehicle event, which started today! Be sure to follow the link below to learn how you can obtain this interesting vehicle.
