The Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) was an experimental version of the well-known British Beaufighter heavy fighter, serving as a testbed for the newly developed 40mm aircraft cannons in the early 1940’s. This unique vehicle awaits pilots as one of the main prizes in the upcoming new season of War Thunder Battle Pass!
Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm),strike aircraft, Britain, rank II, premium
Features
- Deadly 40mm cannons
- Limited ammunition
- Good flight characteristics
- Premium bonuses
In 1941, British engineers continued conducting armament trials with the Beaufighter, introduced into service in the previous year. Despite already being one of the most heavily armed aircraft in the world at the time, British engineers conducted tests of the newly developed 40mm cannon and fitted two different cannons to one of the early prototypes of the Beaufighter. The results concluded that the experimental version of the Vickers S cannon was more preferable, it was then subsequently further developed and eventually found its way into purpose-designed ground attack versions of the Hurricane fighter.
The Beaufighter is a heavy fighter known and loved by British pilots most notably for its extremely heavy armament and its good looks, present even in early modifications. The Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) is an early prototype of the heavy fighter, which instead of entering regular service, continued being used as a testbed by engineers. This specific version is fitted with a pair of 40mm autocannons, capable of dealing some truly devastating damage, even to heavily armoured ground units!
Unlike other modifications of the Beaufighter, this experimental version of the heavy fighter is much better equipped to successfully combat armoured ground units. While regular modifications rely primarily on secondary weapons to do this, the Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) can simply engage enemy tanks with its nose-mounted 40mm cannons, capable of punching through a not so inconsiderable amount of armour plating. However, pilots ought to keep in mind the limited ammunition capacity of the fitted 40mm cannons. Being able to only pull the trigger 28 times, aspiring pilots of this aircraft will need to be precise with their shooting and make every shot count. On the other hand, one well-placed salvo is sure of severely crippling a typical ground vehicle found at this rank while the aircraft will most certainly stand no chance in a direct hit!
Be sure to add the unique Beaufighter Mk I (40-mm) to your in-game collection by taking part in the upcoming new season of the War Thunder Battle Pass. Clear skies and good hunting pilots!

I would have preferred a different Rank III/IV aircraft. But a unique Beaufighter is welcome :)
PaperyHorizon69@live, Good for you. Fortunately for me I can just enjoy the game without always thinking about grinding.
It's not that I disparage the Beaufighter, but I've already played its free version and won't waste money and time getting another one that I won't use.
This Beaufighter is free in the BP
JaFuzzz, You have to put in time and effort to get to level 50 and this thing is completely worthless outside of ground forces so...yeah not even worth the time free or no and look at how many "Not gonna bother with this BP" comments we are seeing, looks like many agree.
None of these prices are truly breathtaking and I understand why people call this Battlepass "weak" but I'm really happy that Gaijin finally implemented a critique of many players: That exotic vehicles get used for something like this that is more for collectors who simply have the luck to already be present in the game at this very moment and not be put into the main Techtree where vehicles belong that were actually a common sight for that army. Please stick to this concept Gaijin.
Premium Stuka when ?
WTF a Beaufighter?? And a Rank II plane? The Hs 129 with the 30 or 37mm which is a tech tree regular would be far more capable than this pile of garbage. Why the hell would I even pay for this BP? I can't sell this thing either cos no one would be dumb enough to buy it on the market? Hell even the F2G ranks above this. At least that was a high rank vehicle.
So basically we get a light tank and a bunch of garbage nobody will ever use. Thanks Gaijin, very nice.
This would be great as a Battle Pass vehicle if it had 2 of the same guns or just a 50 cal and a cannon, with bombs, and was rank 3. Why would you give us vehicles we have to pay for to grind and can't even use to progress in the battle pass? I can understand 1 low tier vehicle for a minor nation to help you get started, but 2 vehicles you can't even use to get the second daily completed that we have to pay to get? Please give us another option for the plane or the ability to modify it.
Can't build a decent line-up taking BR and RANK into accounts. This is getting ridiculous. And whatever you do, you end up with other players with superior machines. I suppose it's another high BR and low rank vehicle. The rank is low just to not let you enjoy the premium status too much...
new battle pass is anti happiness
2nd battle pass skip for me.
I am curious, how are you skipping them? You need to do nothing to participate and still get nice prize. You intentionally skip those prizes and do not use them, losing a lot of nice freebies?
Stona_WT, "You need to do nothing" I'm sorry but that is straight up false, as you need to do dailies and challenges to get this so-called "nice" prize and if you aren't a tanker? This bird is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. I'll just not bother doing any of the above (and possibly just bow out for a few months) because as a pilot this will be as "nice" in air RB as a kick in the shins. Shame as I was sitting on the GE to buy this BP but nope, hard pass.
