You can unlock this vehicle during the special event : War Thunder Chronicles!
The PV-2 Harpoon is no PT boat, as the name would usually suggest, but a significantly redesigned Lockheed Ventura - a very popular and well known twin engined medium bomber used in a massive numbers towards the end of the World War 2.
The Harpoon was a twin-engined Naval reconnaissance patrol bomber aircraft derived from the PV-1 Ventura (the version build for the US Navy). It was massively reworked model build on the good experience gained with its predecessor, even so, some issues were addressed. The wing area was increased by around 12 square metres, giving it an increased bomb load and shorter take-off time, which was one of the major weaknesses of the PV-1. The tail area was produced as a completely new construction, the structure of the fuselage was reworked for strengthening and the bomb bay area enlarged. Even though the total mass of the aircraft was increased by quite a large factor (around 900 kg), the new machine had better flight characteristics and was more controllable.
Additional armament in the form of multiple forward-firing machine guns and an option to carry HVAR rockets. This was enhanced even more with the D version (the model that will be introduced into the game), which increased the total count of the forward firing 0.5 inch Browning M2 machine guns to the number of 8.
The PV-2 was powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engines with a maximum of 2,000 horsepower each that gave it maximum speed up to 282 mph (454 km/h) at an altitude of 13,780 ft (4,200 m). Its maximum service ceiling was 23,620 ft (7,300 m) with an empty weight of 21,000 lbs (9,538 kg) and a maximum weight with fuel and bomb load was 36,000 lbs (16,300 kg). It was able to carry up to 6,000 lbs of bombs.

The PV-2 Harpoon was a reliable and successful aircraft, but due to the end of World War 2 additional orders were canceled and its career ended shortly after the war, in the USA the aircraft remained in service until 1948 (much longer in other countries, though; e.g. until 1975 in Portugal) and many were converted to the PV-2T trainer version.
Its career doesn't need to come to the end in War Thunder though - version D of the PV-2 will come as a unique reward for the Chronicles of World War 2. It is sure to please many fans of the US Naval bomber branch, especially admirers of the PBJ type aircraft which it will share its specific and similar playstyle with.

Hey Stona, I'm grinding out these vehicles right now and I was wondering if you could let me know on how high the tiering is gonna get. I was just curious because were at the end of tier three but on award 4 and my vehicles don't reach much past this. If you respond, that would be great?
Sadly I do not remember what vehicles are used on last events :(
Stona_WT, thats alright, I guess I'll have to wait and hope.
For the vehicles earned, will they all be in the same update and what time frame are we talking about? Do we have to wait for a large update or a minor patch where they are added in and if there is a bug in the system, how are we supposed to prove we earned the aircraft?
These vehicle unlocks will happen without an update. they will show up either as you unlock them or at the end of the event.
Here is the deal, we do daily tasks already and that chronicles event stuff? it`s just torture! you guys should implement those rewards in custom battles! i rather chose my daily tasks than this.
Problem is that once more this grind promote selfish behavior ; killstealing and stuff (excepted for the supporting fire), kills and kills and kills, assists never count (it could count as half a kill or something)...
Fake news. Supporting fire IS an assist for a squad mate.
so i just have to play 6 arcarde battles in chronicles event and win and this thing will be mine or must i play all 6 events and win in each one in order to get these vehicles or must i play on that specific day in the calender to get the tokens plz explain im confused.
you have to get 6 stages, one stage is 30 kills 10 victories and 4 supporting fires (you need a squadmate for this one)
It's not just 6 battles. You have to fulfill tasks for each of the 6 stages. Each stage lasts 2 days on two different maps for GF, IDK about planes. But one of the tasks is to win 10 battles with 70% participation, for example.
Will it have a cockpit modeled in?
Can we still unlock these or has this shut?
To get this aircraft do we have to play the plane event? cheers
It just started last weekend and each 'sub' event last for 2 days so you've only missed 3 events out of 11 or more (I can't find the list right now to see how many exactly).
Stona, the prizes are fine—not amazing, but interesting historically and beautiful to look at. And I think the event is fun, and only occasionally a boring grind. But the volume of play is almost negligible. At least on the US server, it takes forever to get a match. *In Arcade!* I don't know what concessions Gaijin needs to make to create a larger user base, but if you can't draw enough players to make for reasonable queue times, the event has failed, regardless of what you or I think about it.
The time of day effects when you get into matches quickly (or not) when only running a single server region. I suggest you open up to other servers to improve times. Especially when it comes to events like Chronicles.
This plane... at the first tier...so beautiful.... ;)
Seems like an interesting enough plane. I'm just worried about the BR it'll be set at.
