The Avro Lancaster – a British four-engined heavy bomber in service with the Royal Air Force from 1942. The Lancaster Mk.I was equipped with “Merlin” XX, 22 or 24 engines. Defensive armament were 8 guns mounted in three turrets – 2 “Browning” MG’s mounted in the nose and upper turrets and 4 in the tail. Standard bomb load – 8000 lbs (3630 kg). Crew – 7 . A total of 3440 Mk 1 Lancaster’s were built.
