We would like to tell you what technical problems we faced during "Golden Fights", that were arranged to celebrate our Gamescom 2013 award.
Basically there was one problem: at 14:48 GMT before the beginning of the event our game balancer could not reach players profile data base because of the failure of both DNS servers of our hoster. Unfortunately this problem redirected all the players again to the log-in service, which you address when you start the game (at the beginning/end of the battle) and it was not able to handle that much increased load, which was 2000% more than usual!
In several minutes our administrators and programmers doubled log-in service capacity, and it finally handled the increased load (70 000 players) in 37 minutes, but was still working at its limit. Further problems were connected with the increased log-in service load, all other services had been working as normal.
Thus, we can tell that problem with special event has been fixed as soon as possible, the event was prolong for an hour to compensate for the time lost.
We would like to emphasize the following:
- All our services have x5 safety margin. They are being tested with synthetic test on a regular basis. This time we experienced x20 load increase - and we will take it into account for the future issues.
- All sessions that were started - were played to the end without any problems. Thus, we can guarantee that gaming process will not be interrupted, whatever problems other game server experience.
- The problem we faced on 01.09.2013 has been fully documented and fixing is in progress. It should be fixed by the coming weekend,
- Despite the log-in problem peak amount of players in the game was over 78000!
- Total time log-in server was unavailable made 47 minutes. The event was prolonged for an hour.
We would like to send our gratitude to our players for the support shown! Each problem you found and reported was checked in real time - we were watching forums, social networks and chat. Every time another problem is fixed - it makes our game better. So we know for sure - that you and us together, we will win more awards and celebrate it. But next time without accidents.
