The Bf 109 E-1 was the first of the famous Emil series of Messerschmitt’s legendary fighter aircraft. Representing a major development in the Bf 109 family, the “Emil” would be the variant that bore the brunt of fighting during the opening stages of the Second World War and earned its fame during the Battle of Britain in 1940.
