WWII bomber formations flew in very large numbers (not four). They had a limit of 50 or so for "strategic" bomber missions. The number one mistake bombers make in WT is flying straight to the base or target. They even dive to get their faster. The best strategy, side climb to 6-7K, let allied fighters engage enemy ones. Fighter engagements usually lose altitude over time, and then you'll be highest plane. There are usually two problems you will face: (1) you'll be the last plane on your team;
Flying in formation of four (the limit of "bombers" in WT) gives you some more defensive guns, but it also makes it easier to lose all your bombers in one go: on Norway, for example, I've seen formations of b-29's and B-17g's simply get mowed down by "formations" of Do335's and Ta 152's or FW 190's. Then enemy can also bring numbers and simply begin lobbing 30mm from 1.5k--really hard to miss a grouping of bombers, odds very good that cannon will land a hit--until some critical hits are scored.
Any map (Norway comes to mind) where the AI (ships) do not kill each other, may require bombing additional ticket targets. On Norway 14 ships is enough if you cap (allies) A (airfield) and bomb all three bases as you get a bonus for each accomplished mission. For the axis, they must bomb all three bases and keep A in their possession for the bonus. However, it's extremely rare for either team to knock out enough ships to win on tickets; most games on this map are decided by killing planes.
Without informing your playerbase you reduced bomb and rocket damage in patch 1.77 , and on this latest patch you nerfed rp gains by half for destroying ground targets. Add this to the incredible high repair costs of some bombers and the new cannon buff ( wich I think was well made), and these are the main reasons why bomber pilots are suffering. And now you do this video to teach how players should use bombers? Seriously???
Well said. I don't understand the changes made by WT regarding radius damage/destruction of ground targets, which do not match the description of radius damage mentioned for the bombs. You can drop 500kg bombs closer than 10m and still not destroy a light pill box.
Wow this is an insult to dedicated bombers in War Thunder. Since update 1.79, Gaijin have reduced the bombs radius of destruction, so getting multiple ground target kills is none existent anymore and you will be lucky to get 1 ground target with 1 bomb, no matter the size of bomb, plus if you require a thunderer award for warbonds you had better hope you get a front line map, because on all other maps the ground units kill each other before you can get the award.
Bomber crash course - Fly to space and wait for game to end to get the win.
or more often, race in, kill a base and J out.
I have an idea, give bombers boosts for lions and RP when they fly in formation, that way people have a much bigger reason to fly together
Did anyone else notice the glitch at 2:46 where the floats that flew off of the Be-6 duplicated?
You just cant motivate players to escorts bombers like that, most of the time, they will earn next to nothing when they just stick to you (same when flying in formation) I suggest that there should be an incentive when flying near a bomber. ie. if u are within 1km on a bomber, u keep earning RP for each second and gets partial RP when it destroys things like bases.
Rank 6 Air??
My comments are from experience in Rank IV and below.
