[Enduring Confrontation] Dunkirk - Air Defence
Available from July 21st 16:30 GMT to July 24th 7:00 GMT
Operation Dynamo, 22nd May - 4th June 1940
France was falling rapidly to the advancing German army, the Allied forces were divided by the German advance from the Ardennes to the Somme. The Allied armies in the north were cut off and quickly becoming encircled. An evacuation of the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) began on the 26th May whilst the Allies strengthened their defences against advancing German armour which met heavy resistance.
Heavy German bombing had rendered Dunkirk's harbour useless, and hundreds of thousands of men were stuck on the beach, hoping to be rescued. The Luftwaffe attacked the troops on the beach and reduced the town of Dunkirk to rubble whenever the weather was suitable. The RAF intercepted as many of the attacking aircraft as was humanly possible whilst being crippled by the distance they had to travel from Allied airfields to assist the beleaguered forces as well as pitting relatively inexperienced pilots against the more veteran German pilots. Despite the limitations, over the nine days of Operation Dynamo, the RAF flew 2,739 fighter sorties and an additional 822 reconnaissance and bombing missions. Fighter Command claimed 262 enemy aircraft downed for 106 of their own destroyed.
On the 29th of May, the British public were advised of the evacuation, many privately owned boats started arriving at Dunkirk to ferry the troops to safety. This fleet of small vessels famously became known as the 'Little Ships'. The contribution these civilian vessels made and the bravery of the crews in their part in the evacuation set a source to the term 'Dunkirk spirit', an expression still used today to demonstrate the British will and the ability to rally together in the face of overwhelming odds.
On the 4th of June, at the end of the operation, 198,000 British and 140,000 other Allied troops had been saved, while nearly all heavy equipment had been left behind. Although the Germans had taken over a million Allied prisoners in three weeks at a cost of 60,000 casualties, the evacuation has been seen as major morale boost to the British people and enabled the Allies to regroup for a fight that was to be joined in the skies over the “Home Turf” (The Battle of Britain), and to resist the anticipated German invasion of Britain (Operation Sealion).

Just watched this movie this afternoon, fantastic film, and I was hoping Gaijin would do an event to honour it and wallah! It happened! =D
Lmao did you just say "wallah"? it's "voila"
PanzerOptional, Wallah!
For the love of good, make RBEC an actual gamemode soon, look at all the people who are loving this, this is the perfect gamemode for air, people actually teamwork in it. In a match right now that I think will go on for all 3 hours with a wonderful and talkative team, possibly my best experience in War Thunder ever. Please make it an actual gamemode.
IKR! YES! Please my favorite moments in war thunder was when Enduring Confrontation was a regular thing for RB. PLS make it a permanent event!
Yes a really great experience, ppl really work together. Also gives the match more value, you have a bigger achievement. Ppl coordinate, it was great!
The sea is little empty. Shouldn't there be some ships?
it's a very cheap event. The Dunkirk isn't even in the map lol where is the city Dunkirk or hundreds of ships and little boats ? They didn't put any effort into this compared to another game about ships, you know which one.
Yeah terrible event, map is WAY too big with no targets, not enough players, my buddy was bored af. I was trying to talk up EC mode too, because Stalingrad with the battle lines and 16 v 16 was awesome. A map that size I'd like to see 32 v 32, I remember that a while ago, crazy but fun. If people want realism they can play SB anytime! BTW Dunkirk is a myth, Germany let them go, they put little effort into bombing the ships and none into capturing the troops in a gesture of goodwill.
Could you guys add some naval targets like cargo ships and patrol boats for us to kill? The game seems empty without them...
Sorry Gaijin, but this EC is the worst and the most boring one. No targets to destroy, only airfield to bomb, no ships and just 1 spotting aircraft for each team.
Not everyone likes the normal Rb Team Deathmatch that involves zero tactics. Besides, the other EC maps were much better and there were a lot more ground targets
it's about as much action as Dunkirk actually saw...hardly any ground battle not really much air battle. Only the British could be proud of a successful retreat with little interference lol
Hey Gaijin, why don't you add naval targets in this event for dive bombers and torpedo bombers?
Kinda disappointing/boring event.. Dunkirk itself is barely even on the map. EC is just about bombers of both sides crossing the channel and bombing airfields on the other side. :/ No naval targets, no special objectives. The available planes feels good though.
I just played this mission and, sorry, It's not Dunkirk. There are no ships, no expeditionary force, no British troops in France. We had to attack airfields in England. This is battle of Britain. Don't waste your time with this.
WT every day getting worse !
*Sergios_sout, So because they make one lazy event the entire game is bad? Sure the event was meh but the actual game is good
Well done, Gaijin! Can't wait to see the film!!
Don't waste your time. It's not Dunkirk. There's no British army in France, No ships, Nothing. It's a simple cross channel mission with three bases each side. The Brits don't have base in France. Nothing. If I want to play that scenario, Cliffs of Dover does that perfectly.
Gaijin, why dont you do more events like this during the year? I´m fed up of playing Norway or the Alternative history
