National Day of the People's Republic of China
Every year, on the 1st of October, the central squares in China will be decorated with compositions of fresh flowers, Chinese lanterns, dragon figures and see folk festivals and performances on the streets that will continue for several days in the “golden week”. This day marks the main public holiday in China.

World War II proved air superiority to be crucial, so on September 18th, 1947 US Air Force became a separate branch of the country’s armed forces. Today it’s the largest air force in the world with more than 320 000 troops, 5 000 aircraft and 400 ICBMs.

Battle of Britain Day
On September 15th, 1940, the Luftwaffe performed its largest air attack on Great Britain, wanting to destroy the Royal Air Force. The Germans sent 620 fighters and 500 bombers to London, hoping to draw out and defeat the RAF. And yet RAF pilots held off and in the end downed twice as many enemy aircraft as the Luftwaffe did. Having failed in the sky, Germany scrapped its plans of invading the UK.

Victory in Asia Day
On August 10th, 1945, the day following the Nagasaki bombing, Japan accepted the Allies’ conditions for surrender. On August 15th Emperor Hirohito addressed his nation in an unprecedented broadcast, and on September 2nd an official surrender ceremony took place. This date is considered to mark the final end of World War II.

US Airborne Day
On August 16th, 1940, US army forces performed their first parachute jump. The airborne troops received their baptism of fire a couple years later in North Africa and went on to play a crucial role in key late war events such as the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.

People’s Liberation Army Day
On August 1st, 1927, the Nanchang uprising laid the foundation of what later became the Chinese Red Army. From 1937 to 1945, it was fighting against the Japanese invaders, and in 1948 it was reformed into People’s Liberation Army. Right now, it is one of the strongest military forces in the world.

On July 14th, 1789, the Bastille fortress, a symbol of absolute monarchy, was taken over by rioting Parisians. It was one of the most important events of the French Revolution. And so, when at the end of the 19th century the French government decided to choose a date for the national holiday, they picked July 14th.

France was one of the first countries to begin building aircraft: its air fleet consisted of almost 150 aircraft before the start of World War I. Still, it was considered a part of the army until July 2nd, 1934, when the Air Force finally became an independent entity.

On July 1st, 1926, Sweden united its aerial divisions in the army and navy into separate Air Forces. They grew dramatically during World War II, but in the end never participated in it.

The British North America Act that united three colonies into a federation called Canada and served as a foundation of the Canadian constitution went into effect on July 1st, 1867. This day became a national holiday in Canada and is celebrated even outside the country itself, even including War Thunder!

Japan Self-Defense Forces Day!
After its defeat in World War II, Japan renounced war in its Constitution. But soon its leaders decided that it didn’t mean relinquishing Japan’s right to self-defense, and called the new army that was founded on July 1st, 1954, “Japan Self-Defense Forces”.

On June 26th, 1857, the first Victoria Crosses, the highest military awards in the British honours system, were awarded to veterans of the Crimean War by Queen Victoria herself. Since 2006 the United Kingdom has celebrated its soldiers on the last Saturday of June.

In June of 1955, West Germany founded its Ministry of Defense that began working on rebuilding the country’s armed forces. The new army received a new name: instead of “Wehrmacht” it was called “Bundeswehr”.

On the 10th of June, 1918 the Italian Navy sank the Austro-Hungarian dreadnought SMS “Szent István” during its first major voyage. In honor of this, the 10th of June in Italy is celebrated as Navy Day.

This June marks the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway, a turning point of the war in the Pacific during WWII. Japanese forces planned to catch the Americans by surprise, but the Japanese naval code was deciphered, and this allowed US troops to properly prepare and triumph in battle.
