The maiden flight of the first production model of the Soviet Mi-24 attack helicopter took place on September 19th 1969. The Mi-24, known in NATO as the “Hind”, became a symbol of Soviet helicopter engineering.

Semyon Alekseyevich Lavochkin was born on September 11th 1900; he was a Soviet aircraft designer renowned for the “La” series of aircraft. The most famous among them, the LaGG-3, La-5, and La-7, served many aces of the Second World War well. After the war, Lavochkin headed OKB-301, which, in addition to aircraft, participated in developing missiles for the S-25 “Berkut” surface-to-air missile system. Following Lavochkin’s death in 1960, the design bureau was named after him and gained renown for spacecraft such as the Luna, Venera, Mars, and Vega missions, among others. It remains in operation to this day.

Defense Day is celebrated in Pakistan on September 6th. The date marks the beginning of the Indian offensive against Lahore during the 1965 war, an attack Pakistan successfully repelled. To commemorate the roles played by the Air Force and Navy during the 1965 war, their respective service days are celebrated on September 7th and 8th. On Defense Day, veterans are honored, and soldiers who fell during the armed conflict are remembered.

The Type 74 main battle tank, manufactured by Mitsubishi, was adopted by the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force on September 5th 1974. The tank was not delivered to other countries, but remained in service for almost 50 years. It was withdrawn from service only in 2024.

In 1941–42, Hawker worked on five variants of a new fighter intended to succeed the Typhoon. The Tempest Mk V entered service in January 1944 and saw extensive use during the final years of the Second World War.
