USS Baltimore (CA-68) (1943), Rank V, USA, Event
This vehicle will be the exclusive award in the “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.” event.
The development of new heavy cruisers for the US Navy began after the outbreak of World War II. The restrictions of the London and Washington Treaties ceased to be relevant, so the United States enthusiastically began to refine the projects built within the limits of the restrictions. Based on the heavy cruisers of the USS Wichita class, a new cruiser was developed to correct the issues of its predecessor, namely low stability and a shortage of anti-aircraft weapons, and also with improved seaworthiness, protection and range. The lead ship of the new series, the heavy cruiser USS Baltimore, was laid down in 1941. The distinctive features of the new large series of cruisers are extremely powerful and versatile anti-aircraft weapons and an increased hull width for increased stability. The USS Baltimore entered service in 1943 and immediately began performing combat missions in the Pacific. Until the end of World War II, Baltimore was in the midst of naval war, taking part in a number of US operations. After a short "vacation" it was re-commissioned in 1951, but did not take part in the new, Korean War. The ship was decommissioned from service in May 1956.
In our game, the heavy cruiser Baltimore will be the main naval prize in the “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.” event. This is a very harmonious blue-water ship - according to many experts, the Baltimore class is the best among all heavy cruisers from the war period. Featuring very decent protection (armor belt up to 152mm, armor of the main battery turrets up to 203 mm), Baltimore has fairly good speed. The main caliber guns of the cruiser are nine 203 mm guns in three triple-gun turrets, while the commander is offered a choice of several types of shells. Auxiliary artillery - six twin-barreled 127mm universal turrets. AA artillery truly gives zest to this ship. Baltimore is protected from air attacks by 12 quad 40mm Bofors mounts, and 24 rapid-fire 20mm Oerlikon autocannons. Perhaps this is a new record in the game!

Can this be the first American Heavy Cruiser that's not dead on arrival please? All of the others have had horrific accuracy and their worst possible reloads, along with New Orleans having numerous issues with the armor modeling. Even if it's modeled well, it'll still get destroyed by Dreadnoughts, considering the penetration calculator isn't likely to give Super-Heavy AP it's proper penetration. Is it so much to ask that the one of the five comes in a playable state?
Thanks to Gaijin's garbage-tier game design pretty much every cruiser that gets added from now on is dead on arrival even if implemented correctly, aside form the few that get placed at 4.7.
Steady on old chap, that is known as quality assurance, we are normally happy if we get the right amount of main turrets!
Why isnt this in the US tech tree as a research able vessel ? All current american heavy cruisers in the US tree are, ye, useless....
Only logical answer: cash money.
Joram, but it is free
Hey gaijin, why spam 6 individual devblogs that definitely weren't rushed instead of linking all devblogs in the main W.I.N.T.E.R page, just like it was in the last summer event?
Standard marketing procedure, you'll gain more clicks on the long term if you spread out content rather than releasing all of it on the same day. Nothing new, everyone does it.
All answers (1)Comett, What? This is straight up not true. Check the comment count on the f11f tiger, and the mig-21pfm devblogs. This is just spamming rushed low quality dovblegs to give the feel of variety.
LOL thats how i got here was through the winter devblog
A clearly missed opportunity offering Wichita instead of Baltimore. Shame on you, Gaijin.
the most widely built heavy cruiser in the world, a stark contrast to the hilariously poor Pensacola, Northampton, Portland, and New Orleans. best heavy cruiser ever built. And its an event vehicle. Good work Gaijin, real good work. Your vast intellect never ceases to amaze
I would argue that the best (all gun?) Heavy cruiser built is the Des Moines class, imho.
The Baltimore is a beautiful prize at least. I'll have to grind my ass off for it.
Kinda wish we got an IJN CA as a prize honestly. USN already has more than enough ships there to be a headache. Maya 1944 would be a perfect fit for a prize instead of a Baltimore for a tree that is going to get an Alaska and already has good ships on it.
to be fair the us havycruisers are preatty bad at the moment so i, think it's a good thing to have a good one, although i don't understand why not give them the uss wichita as an event veichle insted of this very produced one (not that i care i'm still gonna get it) but yes the ijn maya 1944 would be a very nice event veichle
