Supersonically rushed
We just completely ignoring that the reason heat-seekers are so deadly and the reason the AIM-9 had so many kills was because it DIDN'T require lock-on and an unaware pilot had NO clue that a heat-seeker was closing in? There was no radar lock-on, there was no warning tone in the cockpit. If a pilot didn't have eyes on his six and see the smoke trail from a heatseeker chasing him, they would never know to pop flares or pull maneuvers. Evading heat-seekers was all about pilot awareness.
they do lock on just not in the sense i think you are thinking. They must take a small amount of time to search for the heat signature and then start tracking the heat signature in order to follow the enemy jet
They dont need to "lock on", but they do need to see a heat signature to be deployed. As for the warnings, thats a gameplay compromise to keep them balanced.
The air to air missiles are dead useless all the enemy does is move tight about a foot and my missile goes off course.
Nice breakdown of heat-seeking tech. Overall the implementation was pretty good (I'm not overjoyed at the artificial lock-on warning, but I'd rather the missiles be underpowered rather than overpowered). However, I wish there was more information available on the technical details of a missile, e.g. a missile's FoV, seeker head track-rate, engine thrust & duration, proximity or contact fuse, etc. These would be very useful both for gameplay and bug fixing.

It's not always the plane. Lot's of 109 pilots are extremely skilled. Allied planes can easily out play 109s. It all depends on the situation.
I really hope there is no Missile warning when playing sim...
So far, I have been killed twice by the AIM-9 in SB EC, with no lock-on warning, so it’s functioning correctly, I assume.
